REMPLAN History and Development

REMPLAN was founded out of La Trobe University in 1999 and was established as an independent business in 2006.

How REMPLAN began

REMPLAN was founded in 1999 out of La Trobe University and grew from regional economic research into a dedicated platform for regional economic data and analysis.

The platform was developed to address a gap in regional economic intelligence in Australia, providing councils, planners and researchers with accessible tools to understand their local economies.

How REMPLAN has developed

From its origins in university research, REMPLAN became an independent business focused on regional economic data, input-output modelling and economic impact assessment. Since 2006, REMPLAN has expended beyond regional economic analysis and modelling to include demographic analysis, population and employment forecasting, housing analysis and strategic advisory services.

REMPLAN Economy and REMPLAN Community have grown to cover regions across Australia, using ABS data to build economic and demographic profiles for defined geographic areas. REMPLAN software is used by local councils, state and territory government agencies, regional development organisations and economic consultants.

REMPLAN today

REMPLAN continues to develop its software platform, data products and analytical tools to support evidence-based regional economic planning and decision-making across Australia.

Key REMPLAN products include:

  • REMPLAN Economy – regional economic analysis and modelling

  • REMPLAN Community – demographic analysis and modelling

  • REMPLAN Forecast – population, household and dwelling forecasting

  • REMPLAN Housing – housing market trends and affordability

  • REMPLAN Advisory – tailored economic, housing, demographic and strategic planning analysis.
